How do I choose a motorhome bike carrier?

There are several criteria to take into account when choosing a bike carrier for motorhomes. The first relates to the technical characteristics of your motorhome. The configuration of its chassis must allow the installation of a bike carrier. If this is not the case, you will need to add a chassis extension and supports adapted to the chassis of your motorhome.

It's also important to consider the total payload of your motorhome. This is its load capacity, which must never be exceeded. Even though bicycles are lighter than motorbikes, most bike carriers can carry several electric or standard bicycles at the same time (up to 5 bicycles for the Compact-Line bike carrier).

You must also ensure that the total weight of your motorhome, including the bike carrier and any bicycles carried, does not exceed its GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating).

The length of your motorhome's overhang should also be taken into account when choosing a bike carrier. If your motorhome's overhang is too long for the bike carrier, it could rub on the road when passing speed bumps.

How do you install a bike rack on a motorhome?

L’installation of a bicycle rack for motor homes can be complex, as it has to take into account the technical characteristics of your motorhome. To install a bike carrier on a motorhome, you first need to make sure that the chassis of the motorhome is configured in such a way as to allow such an installation. This is not the case for all motorhome models. Depending on the distance between the end of your motorhome's original chassis and the plumb line of its rear bumper, you may not be able to add a bike rack. In this case, you'll need to have frame extensions and brackets adapted to your vehicle fitted by a professional beforehand.
