Cross trailers for motorbikes
Discover our transverse trailers
If you wish to transport your motorbike or scooter in the back of your motorhome or van, you will need to use suitable transport equipment. Because of their weight and size, motorbikes and scooters cannot be transported in the hold or attached to the rear of the vehicle. The use of a transport trailer capable of supporting the weight of a motorbike or scooter is required. This equipment must also fit the chassis of your motorhome or van.
Compact in size and packed with practical features, the transverse trailer is the ideal transport equipment for transporting motorbikes and scooters in the best possible conditions. Mecatek (formerly Sawiko France) offers you its range of cross trailers for transporting motorbikes and scooters in optimum safety conditions.
What is a transverse trailer for a motorbike or scooter?
A transverse trailer (or transverse loading trailer) is a type of trailer that allows a two-wheeled vehicle to be loaded in the direction of the width of the vehicle to which the trailer is attached. The transverse trailer is more suitable than motorbike carriers for motorhomes and vans, as it has a much greater load capacity.
While motorbike carriers have a payload of between 80 and 130 kg, a cross-trailer can carry much more weight. The payload of our transverse trailers Wheely or MaxiGo is 250 or 500 kg, depending on the axle version chosen, between 500 kg and 750 kg. The latter version will then have its own individual registration document. A transverse trailer gives you more options for transporting your scooter or motorbike.
The transverse trailer has the advantage of not increasing the payload of your motorhome, or even the length of its overhang. You simply need to take into account the payload of the cross-trailer itself. The cross-trailer indirectly lengthens the vehicle to which it is attached, but does not make it heavier. The cross-trailer you attach to your motorhome will not modify it structurally. Its payload will therefore be preserved.
Remember to check the compatibility of the transverse trailer with the chassis of your motorhome before you buy. If the chassis of your vehicle does not allow a towbar to be fitted, it will need to be adapted so that you can attach a transverse trailer. In addition, look in box F3 of your vehicle registration document and check that your vehicle has a specified towable weight. If this box is set to zero, contact your dealer to have this parameter changed, so that you can comply with the regulations.
Why choose Mecatek's transverse trailers?
To help you load and secure your scooter or motorbike in the best possible conditions, our trailers Wheely are supplied with a wide range of accessories:
- Front and rear chocks to stabilise the bike on the cross-trailer
- A roll bar and attachment arms for straps
- A folding aluminium loading ramp to make loading even the heaviest bikes easier
In addition to these accessories, we offer a loading kit which you can take separately to make it easier to load your scooter or motorbike onto the transverse trailer. This loading kit includes a removable manual winch, so you won't have to exert any physical effort to load your two-wheeler correctly.
