Designed for 2 electrically-assisted bicycles in the back of a van (option for 3 or 4 bikes: please contact us), this bike carrier for vans is a major innovation thanks to the unique design of its base.
The developers came up with an unusual solution to meet two specific needs: transporting bicycles in the rear and accessing the contents of the vehicle by easily opening the rear doors. The VAN-BIKE 2 combines these two requirements in a simple design.
The rack, which has a payload of 80 kg, has two hinge points fixed to the hinges of the right-hand door and an unlockable anchorage point on the left-hand rack. Thanks to this pivoting system, it is possible to open the doors to 90° and access the contents inside the vehicle, even when the bikes are in place. The VAN-BIKE 2 has a host of technical features for transporting two electrically assisted or conventional bicycles in complete safety. It has two bike racks. Each has two wheel chocks with a lashing system. They slide on a rail to adapt to the bike's wheelbase. Two support bars, one short and one long, stabilise the bikes during transport.
Handling operations to place and remove bikes are easy and effortless thanks to its very low loading sill. What's more, when not loaded, the bike-carrying platform can be folded down. In this case, the vehicle is practically back to its original length, an undeniable advantage for tight manoeuvres.
Safety issues, Mecatek did not hesitate to test the quality of the VAN-BIKE 2 by carrying out a full-scale test in the German TUV laboratories. The VAN-BIKE 2, mounted on a van, was put through its paces over a 12-hour endurance test involving a speed bump. The test was a resounding success!
VAN-BIKE 2 is designed for vans based Fiat Ducato, Citroën Jumper and Peugeot Boxer from the X250 generation.
