Transporting a motorbike, scooter or bicycles in the back of your van, motorhome or converted van requires the right equipment. You need to find transport equipment that can support the weight of a motorbike or scooter, and that can also be adapted to the type of chassis of your vehicle.
The preferred equipment for transporting a scooter or motorbike on your motorhome or van is the motorbike carrier. But it's not the only solution. Compact and versatile, the transverse trailer is an interesting alternative to the motorbike carrier. Mecatek, formerly SAWIKO Francev, offers you the Wheely motorbike trailer.
Why buy a motorbike trailer?
The motorbike trailers are transverse trailers for transporting motorbikes, scooters or bicycles across the width of the motorhome or van. They represent an interesting compromise between motorbike carriers for motorhomes and vans and conventional transport trailers. They are more compact than conventional trailers and have a greater load capacity than motorbike carriers.
Unlike motorbike carriers for motorhomes and vans, the motorbike trailer does not take into account the vehicle's payload or the length of its overhang. Like all trailers, the transverse trailer is added to the vehicle without lengthening it. It allows you to carry a heavy load without weighing down your vehicle. As it does not structurally modify your vehicle, it preserves its payload.
La Wheely motorbike trailer is the ideal solution if you don't want to modify the chassis of your van or motorhome to make it suitable for a motorbike carrier. However, you'll need to check that your vehicle's chassis allows a towball to be fitted before you attach the motorbike trailer.
In addition, the motorbike trailers have a higher payload than bike carriers, in this case 300 kg for the Wheely. This load capacity is sufficient to transport a scooter as well as a heavy motorbike. Using a motorbike trailer gives you more options for transporting your scooter or motorbike.
How do I attach a motorbike to a trailer?
To help you load and attach your motorbike to your trailer, Mecatek offers a loading kit compatible with its Wheely cross-loading trailers. Wheely trailers come with a range of accessories to help you load your motorbike:
- Front and rear chocks to stabilise the bike on the trailer
- Roll bar and attachment arm for straps
- Removable loading ramp aluminium, offering the strength needed for the heaviest motorbikes
With a ramp that can support up to 370 kg, the loading kit available on our site is ideal for loading even the heaviest motorbikes or scooters. It includes a removable manual winch to save you any physical effort.
The manual winch uses a «tilting» front wheel chock system to lock the motorbike's front wheel so that it is perfectly supported. You can then use the winch to tow the bike safely onto the trailer, before securing it with the straps provided.
